Building a FirstDay Cottage is a lot of work and takes a significant commitment, but once complete can earn you valuable sweat equity and a new home.

After completing hundreds of homes and working with hundreds of customers, FirstDay Cottage is now focusing on what we believe to be the simplest and most practical home design you can buy: the single-story FirstDay Cottage T. While our classic designs (the Original, the Saltbox, and the Cape) are still available, we strongly advise our customers to look at the Single-Story T.
Every finished FirstDay is a little different. Here are some pictures of completed homes to give you an idea of the variety of possibilities with a FirstDay Cottage. A 16' x 33'4 Original FirstDay in Virginia with a walkout basement tucked into a slight hill. FirstDay Cottage interiors are often finished with a lot of customized details done by the owner builders.
FirstDay Cottage was founded over twenty years ago in the early 1990s, by MIT-trained architectural designer, David Howard, who has always been keenly interested in do-it-yourself housing. In the 1970's, David and his wife, Pam, built themselves their first home which measured 11' x 24' and was one and a half stories.

DIY home kits. I can't recommend David Howard enough! I went thru Firstday Cottage to build my own house. Houses are designed to be build by anyone. Simple designs and excellent material puts this company above any other DIY options out there. David is there every step of the way.just a phone call away. IT IS NOT EASY TO BUILD YOUR OWN HOUSE. photos provided are of my own home.
