I had the best experience working with Liz. She was able to meet with me around my schedule, answered my questions in a timely manner and was just a wonderful person in general. Even though I ended up going a different route for now, Midwest Design Homes will have my business in the future!

Homeowners sign contracts before they get numbers from trades. Bid three for each thing, take the lowest, and pocket the difference. Even sign contracts with trades and then give them to others to white out and lower the numbers. I have never seen such poor business practices or greedy people who could care less about homeowners and employees. WATCH OUT!

After living in our house through a brutal winter the one thing we can say is that this is a very sound built house. The quality and support from MDH has been unmatched. Any issue we experienced big or small MDH and their subcontractors remedied as soon as they could. We even had an issue with one of the subcontractors where we weren't satisfied and they pulled in someone else to fix the problem to our satisfaction.

The entire process was laid out and communicated very effectively. We chose an existing model and manipulated it to make it our custom house when there were going to be added expenses we knew what they would be and then billed accurately. Through the whole process they worked to give us our dream house and they delivered, even changing things midway through the project. I would highly recommend them due to their attention to detail and ability to deliver a home you can be proud of.

We liked the experience buying our house with them so much that we contracted them to finish our basement. We bought one of MDH's "spec houses" after construction was already done so we didn't have any input for finishes/colors/etc. but my wife loved the house exactly as is (must have some great designers on-site). We worked with their Project Manager (PM), Chris, for the home closing and we were very happy with the overall process.

We knew we were going to finish the basement shortly after moving-in, and WOW did the make the process easy. Danny was our PM for the basement project. Everything was done FAST, professionally, and it was a joy to work with Danny. We highly recommend them if you want a high quality new construction home. If you want a more custom home, I recommend their custom division -- Jon Huss Custom Homes.

I would not recommend mdh to anyone. The whole process was a complete nightmare. Anytime something goes wrong they are quick to blame you and everyone else woithout taking blame on their mistakes. We have a brand new custom home we plan on selling and starting over. If you can find a different builder I recommend it. If I could give 0 stars I would.

The response from the builder is an absolute joke. We had mold all over our basement once the house was finished. We have brought in over 600 yards of fill (.29 acre lot) because the final rough grade they gave us was so poor. After the first week we had water in the basement. I could go on and on about the issues. If these sound like "minor imperfections" this is the perfect builder for you.

I told you they will blame everyone and anything. Our cat has a water dish in the basement as well should we get rid of her? You blame my dehumidifier but we had your industrial size one down there and still got mold after that. If you have a pet I guess don't let Mdh build you a house apparently they cannot build houses that have pets. We removed the turtle tank got a new dumidifier and still got mold again.

As far as the fill goes every landscaper we brought over to get bids said the same thing "this is the worse I have ever seen a house grade left". We were told in our final walkthrough we needed a lot of dirt and we would get some. After we signed the tune changed and there was no available dirt anywhere. There was no response to water in our basement, that must not be a big deal with the lifetime dry basement guarantee they offer that didn't even last a week.

If you build with mdh this will be your process constant back and forth with everything being your fault. They are horrible people and what they do to hard working families is disgusting. I don't know how they sleep at night. I wish we would have done more research on them. Once we moved in we were able to talk to people who built or bought spec homes and experiences they had are very similar to ours. Please do your homework before picking these people to build you a house. There is no justifying what they did to me and my family.

Poor quality. That sums it all. I've been at the house I bought already built by MDH which mysteriously sat untouched in the market for months. Now I know why. Price and builder. The sump pump died after a few months and the MDH representative blamed it on the "hard water". I had it changed and a back up sump pump installed by a competent plumber.

The furnace kept dying evey 4-6 weeks in the winter and everything was done to try to fix the problem by a concerned technician not associated with MDH or the company that installed the system. Ultimately, this technician from a reputable company figured out that the furnace had been installed with the drainage pipes in the wrong angles making the pressure switch trip and shut off the furnace after short cycling for a while.

After this fix it's been running beautifully. I was told I would have grading of the yard prior to moving in and they must have brought soil from the worst place they could find. Had to be seeded 3 times and the soil had to be replaced when re-grading 3 months later. Had to do grading again around the house 1 year later after I got condensation in the walls of an area in the basement, this was blamed on me of course.

Once I moved in I trusted that they would remove all sorts of construction material and apparently they decided that the window well for the basement was the dump for rubble and garbage, which I spent 2 weekends trying to empty and clean. The last 2 gems are from a few days ago. I am planning on finishing the garage and the basement but the grade (?) of the garage floor is nonexistent or wrong and water runs in the opposite direction from the drain and towards the walls.

The opinion of a reliable contractor is that the concrete was poured wrong from the beginning. The basement has air ducts out of the frame (?) and the person in charge of remodeling mentioned it would have taken nothing to put the duct in the right place to allow for adequate ceiling height in the basement. Now moving everything to the right place to be able to finish the basement is going to cost a significant amount of money.

All these issues reflect the poor insight and attention to detail. I won't go into details regarding the "slope" in one of the rooms upstairs or the cheap toilet brands that were chosen that break every other month. In general my impression is that they used the cheapest materials and probably rushed through jobs that required a bit more careful planning and execution.

I wrote a few times and of course, things were blamed on us, the contractors that work with them, "normal" house settling changes, etc. Last and not least, it was very smart to design a home with the furnace and the water heater under the master bedroom and the AC unit right behind it outside, especially if you want the master bedroom to be the noisiest place in the house.

It's just ridiculous. These are things that I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to consider and try before buying the house. Do not hesitate, look for another builder.

I'll start by saying that I have never in my life bothered to write a negative review on any company, product, or service. But this is something I can't ignore. If I save even one person from this train wreck of a company, it will have been worth my time to write this. I won't bother to go into too much detail, because MDH will deny the issues, cover them up, or blame the customer, as usual.

Their spec homes appear nice.but don't let that fool you, their custom homes are not nearly as nice. The process was a nightmare from start to finish. Every single step was a struggle due to MDHs miscommunication, errors, and blantant lies. This was a horrible experience and I wouldn't reccomend MDH to my worst enemy. There are lots of homes in my neighborhood that were built by MDH and I have yet to find even one person around here who has had a good experience.

The NICEST thing anyone had to say was that they are still waiting for sub contractors to come fix issues (years later) and that building was frustrating since the project manager is not helpful and is so difficult to get ahold of. I'll spare you what my other neighbors have said because I'm assuming google reviews will be deleted if there is profanity.

So many people have had a terrible experience like me.and some were even worse, which I didn't even think was possible. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. I've never been so disappointed in my life. Living in this house is a constant reminder of what a horrific experience this was.

We had a great experience with the MDH staff before, during, and after our build. As everyone knows, even new homes have issues but it is how they are resolved that matters. Tammy with MDH does a fantastic job scheduling the repair work and providing info. Every single issue has been resolved or is being resolved. Whoever said their sump pump had issues isnt aware of how one works. Also, the review concerning pierced pex tubing appears false as its very hard to pierce it with the connectors that wrap the tubing with nails on the outside.

New homeowners need to understand new homes are new not perfect and to me the way the company deals with fixing issues is highly important. Im very satisfied to date and we moved in 8-1-2015.

I am excited to write a review on our MDH building process. My husband and I had an amazing experience building with MDH. From placement of the house on our land to picking out faucets they were there every step of the way. We had never built a house and it was great having a designer to help every step of the way. We wouldn't change one thing about our house, we love it and the entire experience was great! We get so many compliments on the quality of the house! Thank you MDH!

When my family was looking for a new home, we were impressed by the value and flexible floor plans of Midwest Design Homes. Katie made it fun and easy to imagine my family in our new home. She was knowledgeable about construction as well as design, making us feel confident in the quality of construction and excited about the possibility of customizing a floor plan to suit our needs. MDH is an easy first choice for our building needs.
