Jim Warne Jr., a WWII veteran and pioneer in the field of materials testing in the Southwest, built our first 180 sf building where he manually operated a 300,000-pound concrete compression machine. Our first employee, Paul E. Schabacker, volunteered to pick up a 3/4 ton International Harvester pickup truck then drove to Pittsburg where he picked up a "Penn-Drill" rig and on to Phoenix where drilling jobs were waiting.
