Established in 1896 by Joseph McCormick, the company started out constructing storm sewers. It gradually moved into general construction work, including concrete work. In 1927 John J. McCormick joined his father Joseph in running the business, and in 1943 Joseph McCormick passed away. In 1953, Joseph McCormick Construction bought an asphalt plant in Meadville, PA and started concentrating on asphalt contracting.
